We were committed in the art direction for the logotype and mark of Tokyo as an Applicant City in the bid for the 2020 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games, released in November 2011.
The concept is a wreath of cherry blossoms, symbolizing the cherry trees that have been sent as gifts of friendship, peace and gratitude from Japan to countries all over the world. In addition to good fortune the wreath also has the meaning "to come back again." There is a strong wish in it to bring the Olympic/Paralympic games back again to Tokyo for the first time since 1964, and to regain courage and high spirits in this country through sports. In May 2012 Tokyo was selected as one of the official Candidate Cities by the IOC and the mark was updated as a bid emblem with the addition of the Olympic symbol.
