1994年4月、立命館大学全学部での大胆なカリキュラム改革と、滋賀県草津市における新キャンパス開設を機に導入した、コミュニケーション・シンボルとその展開デザインです。
　このシンボルは正式な校章とは別に、時代を担っていく大学の新しい精神性を、対外的にアピールする視覚要素として開発しました。
　Iからのびるエレメントは「知の活力と理性で未来をひらく大学」をデザインコンセプトとし、若々しい生命感がもたらす「未来への風」を表現しています。スクールカラーは、立命館伝統の「えんじ色」を積極的にとらえて、統一的に展開しています。

Ritsumeikan University's Communication Symbol and its design development introduced in April, 1994. The design was applied by taking opportunity of drastic reformation of the curriculum throughout the departments of the university, and opening a new campus in Kusatsu City, Shiga Prefecture.
Besides the formal school badge, the Symbol Mark was developed as the visual element to appeal outside about the university's new spirit of bearing our times. With the concept "the university exploring future with reason and power of knowledge," the design expresses "breeze toward future" brought by lively youth. The school color was developed by positively applying the university's traditional "deep red" in unified manner.
