Multilingual tsunami risk alert signs
Yonaguni municipality, Okinawa

Category: Environment Date: 2012

Yonaguni, Okinawa is the westernmost island resort of Japan and has visitors from all places inside and outside of the country. Considering the navigation of foreign visitors, the tsunami risk alert signs were designed to be multilingual and has five languages (Japanese, English, traditional and simplified Chinese, Korean.) Raising consciousness between the locals was another important role of the signs, so the marine blue color that the locals can identify with was selected as the base color, with an illustration hinting the annual International Billfish Tournament for a familiar expression.
