2016年の東京オリンピック招致に向け、2007年7月に「招致ロゴ」が発表されました。
ロゴのコンセプトは「結び」。結びを象徴する日本の伝統的意匠である「水引（みずひき）」をモチーフに、オリンピックの５色を重ねて表現しました。立候補都市決定に向けてオリンピック招致活動を盛り上げるため、都内の主要施設に環境演出グラフィックを展開しました。2008年6月にＩＯＣ理事会により、東京は申請都市から立候補都市への決定を受けました。

In Tokyo's bid to host the 2016 Olympic Games, the bid logotype and mark was released in July 2007.
The concept was "musubi" or "to tie," and a Japanese traditional craft mizu-hiki (fine decoration cords made of paper) was chosen to symbolize it, in the five colors representing the Olympic mark. To enhance the movement for the Olympic bid, space graphics were rolled out to cover major public facilities in Tokyo. In June 2008 the IOC selected Tokyo as one of the official Candidate Cities for the 2016 games.
