近年、駅における乗客への情報提供はますます複雑化してきています。JR東日本では、列車の運行情報の集中管理化が進められ、日常的な運行状況はもとより、遅延や災害時などのリアルタイムな情報提供が可能になりました。
LED発車標のデザインでは、駅空間における新しい情報提供機器としての信頼感のある表情づくりが目標となりました。
具体的には、アルミ型材を用いて細部にわたる精度を高めることで、いわゆる掲示器から情報端末機器の表情に近づけました。また視認性に配慮してLED部分に傾斜を設けたことで、視覚的な重さが軽減され、様々な駅空間に調和するものとなりました。

The information service for passengers in train stations has become ever complicated in recent years. JR East implemented central control systems of train operation information. The system became possible to provide not only daily operational information but also real time information of delay, trouble and others.
In the design work of LED Departure Signal, the reliable expression of the equipment as the new information device in the station facilities was aimed at.
The work was done to make the expression closer to the end equipment for information rather than mere posting device. The design was refined in detail by using an aluminum extrusion part. Also by setting up a slant section on LED part, lighter appearance was created and it was harmonized in various station premises.
