“We Love Ten-Jin” Association

Category: Environment Date: 2006

The project is a field trial to raise the traffic circulation of visitors to Tenjin area in Fukuoka City. The trial was implemented by "We Love Tenjin Association," an organization promoting the business in town with the grant from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. There were many unnamed streets in Tenjin area and pedestrians had trouble for walking around. Thus, the organization worked for field trial to find how much the visitors' circulation gain smooth flow by naming the streets and setting up a street sign.
The association produced seven hundred pieces of street name signs, Navi-sign, and put them at every intersection and corner in town for three months. The design was done with taking care of balance and harmony between the effect of attracting pedestrians attention in organization's symbol color green and the grey representing the townscape. Meanwhile, the project used "Now MM" as Japanese typography arranged for signage purpose and Linotype Universe for alphabetical typography for easy reading and expressing modernity and dignity.
