近代デザインと日本固有の文化や風景をどのように結びつければよいのか、大きな課題を抱えたまま、各地で市町村の合併に伴うデザイン開発が行われています。 　飛騨市は岐阜県北部の四町村合併によって誕生した人口3万人の新しい市です。この計画では、四町村がひとつになって、水源である山から「水」を考えることをテーマにした市章を設定し、市が発信する全ての情報を円滑に伝達するためのシステムを作成しました。このシステムでは、市章や色彩はもとより、厳密なタイプフェイスのコントロールを行って、飛騨独自の文化や風景の質の伝達や調和に配慮した、新しい自治体のデザインのありかたを提案しました。

How to connect a modern design and a Japanese traditional cultural scene, with holding that big problem, a design development has been undertaken at many cities and towns nationwide.
The city of Hida is such a new city having 30,000 population through merging of four towns in northern part of Gifu prefecture. The emblem of the city was designed with theme taking the nature of water and mountains as water resources, and a system was created for smooth sending of city's information.
In the system, a new way of design for a regional government was proposed. The design was done with concerns about communication and harmony of culture and scenery unique to Hida by not only the emblem and color but also strict control of the typeface used.
