ISO（国際標準化機構）が主導して、アイコンをはじめとするヒューマンインタフェースの標準化を図ろうとしたプロジェクトです。
コンピュータをはじめとする電子情報機器の操作性が見過ごされる状況下、機械と人間をつなぐインターフェースのあり方が問われました。マニュアルを見なくても基本的な対話ができるように、ユーザーの立場で分かりやすい言葉で表現する、グラフィカルユーザーインタフェースの先駆的なデザイン分野です。
This was the project that standardization of human interface such as icons led by International Standardization Organization (ISO), was planned. The quality of the interface between human being and machine was questioned under circumstances of operational quality of electronic data processing machines had been overlooked. This is the area of advanced graphical user interface in which the operation of a machine is explained in easy language so as a user be able to exchange primary dialogue without reading a manual.
